All Natural, Homemade Body Butter

I have tried making many, many natural homemade body butters. Most of them were too melty, too gooey, or too hard. This one, however, is perfect. It has a whipped consistency that stays fluffy until you finish the jar, it melts into your skin, and it feels divine. Why do I make my own? Because I can control what goes into it. That way I customize it to my own skin and keep the processed junk out.

My skin tends to be quite dry (especially in our northern winters). To help combat that, I drink lots of water, eat plenty of good fat, dry brush (more on that in another post!) and use super hydrating oils in my body butter. In this one, I’ve used avocado oil, coconut oil, and vitamin e oil. All of those help with healing dry, cracked skin. I added some lavender essential oil which is also soothing for dry skin (and it really calms me down when I’m all worked up).

Don’t have dry skin? That is okay! Just customize for your own skin:

Got oily skin? Try using hazelnut oil
Got aging skin? Try using carrot seed oil or rosehip oil
Got eczema or psoriasis? Try using borage oil

Don’t forget that the essential oils are completely customizable as well!

Nourishing & Soothing Whipped Body Butter

An incredibly nourishing whipped body butter for dry skin, but easily customizable for your own skin type!

Prep Time 5 minutes


  • 3/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil
  • 10 drops vitamin e oil
  • 30 drops lavender essential oil


  1. Add everything to the bowl of a food processor and whip until smooth

  2. Store in a mason jar

  3. TIP: Depending on the temperature in your house, you may find the body butter a bit runny at first (I did!). But don't fret! Leave it overnight to firm up and it should be PERFECT the next day.
